All about Scout

Again.
But, we do have Lyle W with us for the weekend! He's gotten his picture taken plenty of times so we spared him the inconvenience.
Speaking of inconveniences, Scout is rather a pain to photograph. Potty training is dribbling along at a slow pace. By the time she's trained we expect to have the entire carpet cleaned, spot by spot. She's a smart dog- she just gets sooo excited.

This is typical. Typical puppy. Shaking her fool head off, trying to rip an old hat to shreds.

Stood still for 1/100th of a second. Or however long it takes a shutter to do its thing.

Some time ago. At grandma Lori's. From nose to tail tip, when we first got her, she was as big as her head is now. I think her bladder was the same size then as it is now... Did I mention that potty training isn't progressing nearly as quickly as I'd like? Number two always happens outside but this number one thing is a stinker.

And a blanket Shauna just couldn't pass up. She tried. Heaven knows she tried. But she came back from a trip to Twin with Julie with this eclectic number under her arm. And now she wants to go to Boise with Julie and Lori. Dear me.

Shauna's new paint in the laundry. The trim won't be white much longer. Just haven't gotten that far yet.

The beautiful paper under the paper that was supposed to look like they'd textured and painted. Wallpaper made to look like it's not wallpaper. Interesting. It's all coming off eventually and then someone will have to texture and paint for realsies. Dear me.

The view out our window today. Bovines lounging in the afternoon sun. Should have taken a picture of the south hills yesterday. Snow on their heads! It's back to being pleasantly warm tail-end-of-summer kind of days again.

Anyone want to take a squash home? Broccoli's coming on, pumpkins might have made something of themselves if they had gotten an earlier start, corn was a pitiful experiment, radishes, beets, lettuce are all done. Still some green beans that Scout hasn't terrorized yet.

Potato harvest gets ramped up to full speed on Wednesday. It's been a nice little reprieve but this too must pass.

Testing- testing-

Does this thing still work?
For as long as we've been gone from this blog you'd think there has been a lot going on. I suppose so, but nothing earth-shattering. Shauna got a job at the bank (not earth-shattering but sure to put the bank into a tail spin), Scout's growing like a weed, Kenyon and Julie moved to the area, grain harvest has come and almost gone...

Korbin, Kenyon and Julie's tricycle motor. A while back. Holding Scout.

He has a harder time holding her now. It's still hard to get a picture of her- still very much a puppy.

At the controls. Even let Shauna take it for a spin for a while. She's been spending quite a bit of time riding with me. And Scout comes when we know she's going to be tired. Shauna takes her to Korbin's house to play for a few hours before coming out to the combine. She's usually ready to crash by then. And Shauna. Some company they are.

This is Mark. He's been helping us with harvest. This was how he ended the previous day. We pulled into a new field at about 11 pm. I went right, he went left. I missed the mud by twenty feet. He buried his combine up to its belly. Really good for doing what they're designed to do- not so swell at other things. Keep 'em on dry ground.

One more day of grain. (Plus however long it takes to do all the neighborly 'favors' we got roped into. "Oh, you have combines? We just have a little piece we need cut over here. And here.") Then we run around like mad to get ready for potatoes. Then beets.
Check back in November.
We might have another update then.

'Round Here

New coche!

A random flower shot.

Scout helping with the weeding. (Sorry, low light and a hyper puppy.)

And a fire pit! Moved some of the flat rocks from the walkway (we're going with gravel because we have more paths than rocks now) and made a start on a weenie roasting hole in the ground. Come on over. We'll turn a bucket over for you. We might even set up a couple Cornhole boards. Sorry- no fireflies.

More Scout

Although she wasn't too keen on the camera. A little more interested in a nap.
But she is growing and getting more active and bumping into fewer walls than before.
And she's sleeping clear through the night. No more waking up to a funny smelling wife.
She's half potty trained. She piddles on me but not on Shauna. We made a flying trip to Boise last weekend (tried out the new tent!) and had to carry Scout everywhere because it was so blistering hot. Into Toxic Heck on the way out of town, carrying a sleeping Scout in her little purse. But, at the smell of the food, there was no keeping her in her hidey hole. So, I was holding her when she let loose in the middle of the restaurant. Lovely.
She got me trained fairly quickly though. When she wakes up she needs to go p. So, Shauna's behind the wheel at a stop light when Critter woke up. Being the highly inteligent person that I am, I pulled Scout out of her tub and onto some newspaper on my lap. A whole section of the newspaper. Unfortunately, newsprint isn't the most absorbant material so, my carefully cradled puddle of p slipped off neat as you please, all in one go, right into my lap when the light turned green. Lovely again.
On the way home someone decided it would be a good idea for Scout to ride in my lap while I was driving. While I was driving and unable to do a blooming thing about the flood of p that soaked me- right where I might have gone p if I had been unable to hold it in. Lovely yet again. My only consolation was that Shauna nearly ended up looking like me (wet in the britches) because she was laughing hysterically.
I was roused from my Sunday morning sleep-in by Scout in the bed. Evidently she'd been there a while and was getting wound up. She got tired of wrestling with mom and bumbled her way to my head, presumably to chew on my nose. No dice. It was a direct course for my pillow and a squat. And a swat. And a one way, do-not-pass-go trip back to her tub. Lovely to the tenth power.
We're slowly coming to an agreement, Scout and I. I'll keep you posted on how it goes- how she goes.

I got some sleep...

And I thought the little lady had also (both of them). She slept in a box in our room 'til midnight. Then I wasn't sure what had happened to her. I woke up to a faint odor of puppy and wondered how that smell had lingered in the room all night. Turns out the little begger was in bed with us. Dear me.
Now Shauna's laughing. "It wasn't that simple" [in a whiny voice]. Sure it was: I go to sleep, wake up briefly once, wake up in the morning to a furry critter in bed. What's so complicated about that?

All of three and a half weeks old

July

The longer we wait to post this, the hotter the water we're in is going to get. For some reason, mothers and such want updates. Here's where we insert some variation of the proverbial question, "What did they do before blogs?"
Our yard has kept us a bit busy. Trying to make sure we comply with the informal but strongly suggested CC&Rs of the neighborhood. Best keep the old-timers down the lane appeased since they keep us supplied with fresh lettuce and flowers and such. We didn't get our lettuce planted in time and it doesn't look like it's going to amount to anything. But we've been enjoying strawberries and table center pieces from the gardens. Corn, beans, squash, carrots, melons, etc are all coming along nicely.

We have gas. Finally. Well, the house finally has gas. You know what I mean.

The bare strips along the edge are were we're making room for a walkway, a spot for some more melons, and making it easier to mow. Rented a sod cutter that led me in a dance across the yard...

A sampling of Shauna's projects- lampshade and a pillow...

...and paint in the bathroom. There might have been more pictures of this but she had to be rather circumspect in her shooting as there were other activities going on at the same time. Speaking of gas.

And a summer project for us. Hopefully I can get them into their places tight enough so that we don't feel the winter wind blowing through the panes like we did last winter.

And a music box. Brought her home today. We like her and we're pretty sure she likes her new home.
Gotta run for now. I see some cookie dough that needs sampling. We're off to Twin for meeting tomorrow and a picnic/potluck/BBQ/volleyball/goodtimesandgoodfriends sort of event in the evening. (Hence the cookies. Cookies that won't be joining me on my lunch breaks this week. Unless I can convince everyone at the picnic not to imbibe...)
